Fisheries / Marine Navigation Bursary

In 2017, Coldwater Lobster Association (CLA) established a bursary program to award bursaries to the dependents (sons and daughters) of CLA members in good standing who are pursuing post-secondary studies in fisheries, ocean management and/or marine navigation. Three bursaries are available for students currently enrolled in their final year of high school who are eligible to graduate in June 2024.

Bursary Amount: $1,000.

Number of Bursaries: Three (3) bursaries are available to be awarded each year. These are entrance bursaries only and are not renewable for students entering subsequent years of study.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidate must be entering their first year of fulltime study at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution or Trade School (degree, diploma) or pursuing studies in a marine navigation program, including the Fishing Master Class for the Fall of 2024.

Submission Deadline: Applications must be submitted no later than 4:30 pm on Friday, May 17th, 2024

How to Apply: To qualify for one of the bursaries, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria and submit the application to CLA with the following documents:

• High school transcripts or letter indicating that candidate is eligible to graduate; and
• Acceptance letter as a first-year student in any Canadian post-secondary institution.

Selection Criteria: Dependents of CLA members will have an equal opportunity of being awarded a bursary. Those deemed eligible will have their names drawn at a date to be determined by CLA.

The successful candidates will be notified by phone and may be required to attend an awards presentation and/or have their photograph taken by CLA or media. Bursaries are awarded in December 2024 upon CLA’s receipt of unofficial transcripts from the student’s prospective Institution as proof of attendance.
